This daylight savings darkness reminds me winter is here and so is peel season! Yay!
I currently have about 4 clients in the middle or beginning of a peel series right now. It is finally peel season in co and it is so exciting to see their skin change.
So..... What is a peel series? What should you expect? Who is a good candidate?
When skin is misbehaving (dry, acne, aging, discoloration to name a few), we can help to retrain the skin to be healthier and more beautiful by deeply sloughing off the top layers of dead skin (epidermis). When we professionally peel this dead skin new skin is reproduced at a much faster rate than normal (we call it cell turnover). The baby new skin is also replicating from the skin that's been treated by our acids, enzymes, vitamins and antioxidants in the peel and products. So it becomes trained to be healthier, better behaving skin.
While one peel is a great way to get a glow, relieve some dryness and pigmentation, and feel softer. It is often not enough to invoke bigger change. Thus a peel series is a fantastic idea if you want to see real results! It can have long term effects as the skin can be retrained in a sense.
Typically a series involves 6 peels done on average 2 weeks apart. I use a combo of enzyme, lactic, Salycilic, glycolic, mandelic, arbutrin, kojic or Tca peel (plus a few more). I have over 15 peels to choose from.
The peel and strength chosen depends on desired results, skin condition and sensitivity. We may also need to balance or rehydrate the skin prior to beginning the series if the skin is irritated, dry or in poor shape.
Anyone is a candidate except where contraindicated (using prescription meds like retinols, pregnancy, nursing, and certain skin or blood conditions). Even sensitive skin can benefit from a peel series!
Cost varies, however usually it is $47 an appointment and you get your 6th one free. And no you do not look like Samantha on HBO after your peel. Mild pinkness to minimal flaking is expected for a short amount of time. I take great care to make sure skin is properly exercised before doing stronger peels.
I will continue to post more information on the topic and feel free to let me know if you have any questions! And always happy to do a free consult.
